Size is the problem right now. You need something bigger. I love the idea of a trunk. I have one myself that is 3.5feet x 6.5feet. I need the storage space. I would also like a large ottoman with a large tray on top. More surface is what will help. You have a comfortable inviting look going. Love the huge stones around fireplace opening! Congratulations on the baby boy :)

I would go with a wood coffee table - you need something larger than the trunk. Something to consider to tie in to the more rustic fireplace stone accent would be a painted wood coffee table in a taupe or gray if it's in the stone. If want to go for something softer perhaps an ottoman in a taupe.

Wanted to add - something a bit less formal given the more formal couch and chairs.

Option A Rustic Wooden Coffee Table

This style is made of rustic wood, has a nice lower shelf for display and is the right shape and size.
It looks like you entertain so I would see about another small round table about 18 in diameter and 25 inches high and place it in between your wing back chairs. The tables do not need to match each other but I feel a warm wood tone that matches your wing back chairs would work great. The trunk seems small enough to be placed at this end of your sofa. Good Luck

Sorry Joann, new baby and hard corners don't mix. I would opt for an upholstered ottoman with a tray. The trunk might go in front of window to right of fireplace, or at end on sofa. A small round table between chairs would finish it.

A round upholstered ottoman would look great in your room and be safe for the little one. You could also try an upholstered storage ottoman. It would be rectangular in shape, but would not have sharp corners. Plus, the extra storage always comes in handy!
