Hi, Please help us make this LR/DR space warmer and cozier. We don't want to ignore its modern identity, but it's not very homy (just sold our colonial home of 23 yrs.) with all the white paint and floor to ceiling windows (beautiful views). This is the current owner's furniture and layout. Ours is Pottery Barn meets French Antiques.

A couple of things stump me: should the furniture face the east, pretty view of church and lake, or the corner fireplace wall, or both? We are not crazy about sectionals. I've seen an apt w 2 identical sofas placed perpendicular to the fireplace.
What to do about the soaring, monolithic fireplace wall? Is a mantel of some kind possible/desirable? What kind of artwork could we put above it? We want less going on, and to make this place feel like our home. Texture and color will help, but where??

We have a 5x6 colorful painting going on the long wall in the DR. Should we replace the parquet floor with planks? We plan to remove the "popcorn" ceiling. Please help us brainstorm. The apt is lovely but not a warm, inviting, home yet. Thanks so very much!!

It looks like facing the furniture toward the fireplace would also aim it towards views out both sides, so I would do that.

A large screen on the fireplace wall as shown is only desirable if the seating is well back from the fireplace and screen, otherwise watching the screen will involve an uncomfortable head tilt upwards.

We can help you both with the popcorn ceilings and with the artwork, with the product that we make. It's called stretch ceiling.

A fully recyclable membrane is stretched across the ceiling, either over an existing ceiling, or in a new build, instead of installing drywall and covering it with popcorn. Tracks, or profiles, screwed into the walls or existing ceiling around the edges hold the membrane in place. These profiles and the membrane take up less than one inch of room height. Don't worry if your ceiling is angled, stretch ceiling can be installed over it just the same. We also install over multi-level ceilings, and can make and follow curves, both up and down, and sideways.

If you later desire a change, a new membrane can be inserted into the same tracks, or the tracks can be unscrewed and the screw holes easily filled with a little bit of filler. You will not need to do this as maintenance, however. The system lasts a lifetime.

We take care of installation for you, and installation is included in the price that we quote.

We carry over 280 colours, in high gloss, matte, satin, and fine canvas-textured finishes.

Here are a few examples, please feel free to visit our profile for more, and add them to your ideabooks!

Call us for a quote, we do not charge for a site measure/quote in areas that are near our offices. If you are further away, you can still get a free quote by supplying us with your measurement information. We have a network of authorized dealers across North America and beyond.
