It possible that it's teak or walnut butcher block - definitely darker than maple.

It's a beautiful butcher block top! According to the architect responsible for the kitchen, this is reclaimed apple cider vinegar barrel wood from Heritage Salvage in Petaluma. Heritage doesn't have much of it, and it is $100 per sq ft, so a significant investment!
