Are you talking about the space above to the ceiling?

I like using large stock pots--- and old mason jars filled with dry goods can look cool, too...

I think it looks sleeker to keep the tops of the cabinets open and undecorated. Not every open space needs to be filled.

I agree with Feeny. Stuff on top of cabinets collects a lot of dust, so it's more work to keep looking fresh. But, here's an ideabook on the topic you may find useful:

I also agree not to put items above the cabinets as that area is harder to reach and just becomes dust collecting space.
