Painting walls a dark red/maroon. Also the paisley is something i want replaced. It is below the screen and speakers are in wall.

Hi---if you paint the walls dark, then keep the ceiling and furniture/furnishings light and neutral; if you decide to paint walls a neutral and inject vivid color through accessories and furnishings, then paint the ceiling dark (charcoal). Hope this is helpful. Good Luck!

I'd definitely go dark, same as walls, on the ceiling. Theatres are typically dark. I think your home theatre should be dark too. steve Woolridge Ashburn Transitional Basement - Theatre Room

I would continue the color up to the ceiling. I love the brownish red by Synergy Design. Use matte finish, whcih is washable and doesn't show imperfections in the walls the way finishes with a shine do. Also, since it doesn't reflect light the colors are truer. Here are some colors to consider: Bordéaux Red 1365, Bewitched CSP-450 Paint, parisian red CSP-1170 and Benjamin Moore Cottage Red.

The walls look wonky in one photo. Is something amiss?

I also like the matte look. The paneling is warped. Thanks for ideas!

I like the ceilings that are done in a real dark blue with the tiny lights embedded to look like stars. I don't know how hard it is to put in the lights but the impact is huge.

I like Carolyn Albert-Kincl Design ideas she is right on the money. I would consider upholstered wall. You can use heavy lined drapery as the do in theaters. I wish I had a pic of a small one I did in a condo. Instead of just hanging drapery panels. I fitted the fabric to the room. Then put grommets around the top. Used small drawer pulls that fit through the grommets to hang the panels straight and tight against the walls. I used a heavy fabric with an Art Deco pattern. It looks really cool and controls the sound perfectly.
