It depends on the lamp they use inside. If they use strong LEDs or good quality fluorescent bulbs the "stripes", which are called light channels, would give immense amount of light.

I would say from my experience that it is fluorescent lighting.
Due to the shadowing that occurs on the longer strips.
I would hope it was not LED as it would not leave any shadowing, it would evenly fill the space with light.
    Hope this helps.

Those are for sure fluorescent. A proper LED light bar would not have this kind of effect towards the ends. Lower end LED strips will have evenly spaced dark spots throughout (because of the LED chip spacing along the board). Even on the shorter bars they would display with the exact same flaws as the longer. If you are looking for light bars like this we offer custom solutions and our products are high end. It would present as a solid bar of light without dark spots.

The example below is called the Riga. This is a surface mounted light bar with customizable lengths if needed. We can also do recessed as shown here.

LEDs these days are very bright. Our LED lights light up to 1600 lumens which is equivalent to a 100 watt incandescent. I wouldn't be surprised with LED.
