Can't seem to pull it all together?
Small B.C. mountain retreat. Any ideas for wall decor, Should i put up shelves? If so what colour? Or Pic's? Going for a modern cottage appeal, I think? Also, What to do above the fireplace? Should I put up more stone like wall left of windows, and if so both walls behind FP or just wall to right? Curtains, What colour?Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated. Finding grey extremely difficult to decorate with. Don't want room to feel cold.

Cottage Craft Tile For the corner behind the fireplace, I'd like to invite you to check out our Cottage Craft Tile website at jvtile.webs.com Not trying to be bias, but our tiles really lend themselves to that "mountain" home look...I've posted pics to give you an idea of "style" not color. We can custom make colors to coordinate with your deor.

ReFRESHED Designs Hi. Aren't you blessed to have a mountain retreat:-) ! I can't fully get the picture of the entire room, but somehow, I feel you need to work on he furniture layout. There need to be more groupings' or conversation areas. Next, I think you are on a great path with your color scheme of grey and weathered brown. I'd add red and carefully placed black to wear it all together. Red based pillows spread throughout, but not all matching. They need a nubby or chunky or furry texture. A much larger rug with red, browns, greys and blacks to at least secure a conversation grouping. Definitely a great piece of unique art or vintage red skis or sled over sofa or on brick wall. Ceiling to floor curtain panels on a 2 inch diameter wood fluted rod with a wood ball finial. Paint it red, then lightly sand it and go back over it with a walnut stain to mute the red a bit and tie in your wood tones. For the curtains, I'd go with a west elm catalog velvet panel. You could further accentuate the red by purchasing a fringey trim to glue onto the inside edge of the center panels. Trim would be blend of all your colors.

Lynette Mitrovich Add some nice art work with complimentary colors. Jc penny sells art now. I like the canvas look, no framing!

patriciarhall pull the setee into the room with the other furniture and center the wood chest on the rock wall. Position the sofa more to center of wall (appears squashed into corner). Larger pillows on sofa with a creamy background and some red pops of color would be nice. Light backgrounds with LITTLE pops of red are interesting.

Interiors International, Inc. A painting above the sofa, great start. Build out the wall above the fireplace and cover in a light stone. The stone should be a combination of greys, tans and pale brown neutrals. Mount the TV on the wall. Move that huge chest away from the love seat. Put in it's place a square or rectangle one that is the same height as the round one on the right. Add two matching lamps. This will be a good start.

Shina Wysocki I also like the idea of adding some red to the room and maybe cream. I would bring your sofa and love seat away from the walls. They are too far from the fireplace and each other. Maybe get some old skis or snow shoes to decorate one wall and then maybe black and white photos of your people framed and put together on the other. Also some other lighting. Gallery light or up lights, something to help add some soft light. Even just new table lamps that don't have hard shades so you get some defused light moving around the room. Bringing some nature into the space could really soften it also. Even just a bouquet of evergreen branches or branches. Enjoy that mountain air.

hockey456 I agree that the furniture placement needs tweaking. Also the chest in front of the sofa makes for too much brown. Consider glass or metal with an industrial flare. Slip cover your chair with cream. Lay a hide rug under the coffee table. Then get some varying textured accessories. I did a search in Houzz for "gray modern cottage" for inspiration...

bearjay Hi, I just got back from BC. I will post some pics of what I did. Mainly pillows/throws. Used greys, whites, and a light blue. Tried several different arrangements. Sofa and love seat are just too big. For now though they have to work. Did pull sofa away from wall in the end. It looks better. Still need some ideas for wood wall now that sofa is not up against it. It is now the path to the stairs. Have some great White curtains with Gray "s" patterns(like ski trails), I just haven't found the right rods yet? Slowly coming together! :) Again, any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

Jayme Hobbs Is that a moveable fireplace? If it is, I think it would look better on the brick wall.

2dogssashatess Love your battered leather couches. I think a plant or two would add to your room and some sort of photo or artwork on the wall behind your 3 seater couch.

carolestrydom I would put a large mirror on the stone wall and maybe reupholster the single chair in one of the colours that you have chosen for scatter cushions.
