End tables in bedroom do they need to match?

Do endtables in a guest bedroom need to match or can they be completely different? I have one that is a dark wood and one that is mirrored can I put them together in my guestroom or would it look strange?

Mismatched nightstands can work beautifully but I do think that the finishes and heights should be similar. Take a look at this attractive combination.

Strongly agree with michigammemom, but, if they're not at all alike, do you plan to use a matching pair of lamps - one on each table. That would help "unite" them.

You can do anything you like. I am certain the room is going to be lovely because you care enough to ask.

Can you post pictures of the room with the tables in place? Would love to see the room.

They don't need to be twins, but cousins are acceptable.

I don't think they should have to match but having them about the same height is more comfortable. For instance. I have an early 1900's four poster in mahogany which has been adapted to hold my box spring and mattress. It makes it much higher than a more current bed - a regular nightstand is not convenient to use. A small occasional table and a small chest of drawers on the other side work fine. I think if you feel comfortable with them, use them.

I usually try hard to not have them match as I find it much more interesting that way. Sometimes in a guest room there is only space for one good sized night stand and a table lamp. But the person on the other side also needs a lamp and a place to put a book or glass of water. That's when I go for a tiny tall table and a swing arm lamp mounted on the wall.

Most important is that they are of equal height so if you have matching bedside lamps they look balanced.
