When hanging the tv above fireplace, Do you center it from top to bottom. ( does it need to be centered from ceiling to top of mantle). I know it should be centered from the length of the mantle. Just not sure about the height

You tend to keep the tv closer to mantle. Try the tv about 10" above the mantle. But remember step back and take a look. Each area varies and when I have these situations we "stand back" and trust our instincts.

First you determine if over-the-fireplace will mean damaging your tv. Others here have said that wood-burning fireplaces are generally no go. In any case, there needs to be sufficient insulation around the chimney.

Thank you all. We are having gas logs installed. I will definitely keep that in consideration. I never thought of the fire damaging the tv.
