Forgot to add, new tile and counters are not in the budget at this time :)

You know, the cabinets don't look too bad. Unfortunate chose of counter and backsplash but it looks like you have nice wood floors. I would be inclined to hold off painting the cabinets unless the finish is peeling.

I would paint the walls to something lighter and brighter and as motherofgiants said check the under cabinet lighting. See what it looks like with your fridge in and your appliances on the counter. It might not bother you after a few months.

Your plan is solid.

I love the idea of under cabinet lighting! Not sure if that is something in the budget (hiring electrician, etc). But I do love the thought!

And the finish of the cabinets is fine, just the honey oak is so dated. I love the kitchens that have the light bright white cabinets with white quartz countertop look. But like I said counters are not in the budget right now.
