How high are the ceilings on the first floor?

The ceilings on that floor are a wonderfully generous 13' high.

Would you put recessed lighting on such high ceilings? Ours are about 12 ft high

I don't typically love recessed lights as they don't throw any light back up on the ceiling itself. I would recommend only used recessed lights as accents or supplemental lighting in conjunction with other light sources.
