Lighten up a dark space
Our living, dining, kitchen area has one window that faces north. Though it also has two sky lights and a vaulted ceiling, it's still very dark.

We want a gray wall color. I tested three colors so far. Gray Owl and Revere Pewter are too dark. And Misty Gray is too pale.

Need a white for the trim as well and the white I choose will be for the entire house.

I'll use Gray Owl in the brighter rooms that face south. It's amazing how much different paint looks depending on the amount of natural light, doesn't it?

What grays would you suggest for our living/kitchen/dining area? And which white would you choose for whole-house trim?

Thanks for your input!

Kitchen & Bath Concepts Good Afternoon Alovelything, Yes, paint can look very different depending on the amount of natural light! For the gray areas, we would suggest one of the following colors: Bunny Gray, Repose, or Silver Point. For the trim: Somerset White, Decorators White, or Crestridge White. (These are all Benjamin Moore Colors as well).

There are a few other tips to keep in mind to lighten up a space. When selecting a paint the glossier the finish more light it will reflect. Matte finishes will absorb light. Adding other reflective surfaces- mirrors, countertops, glass, etc. - will help brighten up rooms too.

We hope this is helpful! Be sure to send us a picture of the final product!
