Main level of home is kitchen?

I am considering the purchase of a quad level home. The main entry level is the kitchen and dining. You must walk down staires to find the living and dining rooms. It is a gorgeous lake house. the lake can be seen from every room but what on earth can one do when the first room guests see is the kitchen? Pretend I am a Tv cook and outfit it with every high tech idea imaginable?

I love your sense of humor. Please post some pics I would love to see this challenge. I too have a lake home and it is great to have lake views from all the rooms.

Don't think you need to do that - perhaps just the opposite re the high tech. If you purchase it, I would punch up more the decor so it's attractive and more "home like" and less "kitcheny" if possible. And eg: for the dining, more informal and casual and interesting. I once owned a house on a lake and really as soon as people came in they went to look at - - - the lake!

And cabinets are 1980's whitewash, would we go with a darker walnut or cherry or paint white.

You could make that dinette into a conversation area. This would take the emphasis off the kitchen. I do like the idea of doing the kitchen in white. I would do it all very cool contemporary. With the sky lights it would look great.

Your guests will be drawn more towards the view than the fact that they are stepping right into the kitchen area. I would try to de-emphasize the dining table like what they have in the realtor`s photo, but with in a more contemporary style.
