Kitchen Cabinet Hardware Finish(es)
January 19, 2013 in Design Dilemma
Designers, need your advice. My soon-to-be-remodeled 1928 kitchen has two sections -- the kitchen section and the dining section (they were originally two rooms). Plan to use simple polished chrome hardware in kitchen section (knobs, cup pulls) on cream Shaker cabinets. In the dining section I'm trying to create some visual differentiation. There will be a 36" hutch with upper glass doors and two small drawers; the lower section will have, two small and two large drawers. The hutch is also Shaker style but a slightly different design than the kitchen cabinetry (same finish). I'd like to further differentiate the dining area and hutch with hardware.

The dining area light fixture has an oil-rubbed bronze finish. Should I stick with ORB for the hutch hardware or can I use an antiqued bronze? My daughter suggested I use glass/crystal knobs similar to those original to the house. I like the idea but I'm not sure about all glass/cabinetry hardware. Can I use it on the top and something else below? If so, what? Appreciate your thoughts as I must make a decision SOON. Thanks.

I wouldn't put ORB on the hutch. I love the idea of glass knobs. I've seen some that are glass attached to a chrome base. You could use those on the cabinet doors and chrome handles on the drawers.,46742,44008&ap=1

Lee Valley also has matching knobs and handles in different colours, which might interest you.,46742,44008&ap=1

Thanks to both of you. I think you're right about the glass hardware -- I'm ordering today.
