Should I remove plant shelves?

We had a flood, and I am taking this opportunity to update our home. Should I remove the plant shelves in our great room? Or just paint them the color of the walls and remove everything from them?

Is that the only plant shelf in the room? At first thought, I think I'd remove the shelf so I could do floor to ceiling drapery panels for the feeling of more height and "drama".

There is something about the absence of "stuff", that is so divine. I agree, remove the plants.

What if you just removed the part over the door and left two smaller shelves?
