Question for color experts.

soozpJanuary 23, 2013
I recently painted my kitchen and breakfast area BM Berkshire Beige. I am happy enough with it, though it in that room the color appears more green than I prefer, especially under artificial light at night.

What color accessories and fabric would tone down the green? Kitchen has white cabinets and black countertops.

Thank you.

Well like you already have, black and white would help. For color, a nice yellow might look good :)

Thanks for the suggestions. I did test four paint colors on poster boards, and moved them around the room, for several days before making a decision. Since that worked out only ok for me and my amateur eye, I was hoping someone trained in color would know the scientific answer for counteracting any green.

I wonder if your cabinets have some sort of redish or pink cast--this can bring out incipient green.

However, you might be able to correct this by using different light bulbs. I don't know anything about this, but have seen others comment on changing bulbs. Comments, anyone?

The beige color probably has a greenish undertone. You need a warm tone from the orange, red family of color to diminish the unwanted green. Also try clear white or bright white bulbs for lighting.

Here R many photos of rooms with Berkshire Beige. This wall color is paired with a lot of white, some brown and small amounts of black or soft purple tones. http://www.houzz.com/berkshire-beige

Since U already have the white (cabinets) and black (counters), I'd try soft purple. A for-show-towel in kitchen & art in the eating area.

Yes, the first photos of Berkshire Beige are exactly the effect I want. You can see in some of the later photos that the color looks a little different. In my kitchen it looks best near the white cabinets, so I may add more white to the breakfast area. I have an antique pine table there that has to stay (family heirloom) and tweaking that finish may help. It needs some TLC anyway.

The lighting idea is intriguing, especially since I like the room less under artificial light. I will play with that, and as long as the cure is not fluorescent I will be happy!

Thanks for all the suggestions.
