I have had one contractor tell me that it is only necessary to put one layer of mud over the rubber liner on a new shower floor. Two other contractors said that two layers of mud are needed. The first layer at a slope of about 1/4" followed by the rubber liner and the second over the liner at a gentler slope of 1/8". Please tell me who is right? Thank you.
tjaklitsch You may find some answers if you search and/or post on Gardenweb. I have found there to be a LOT of experts there who are very helpful. They gave me a lot of advice about insulation for my new house build.
Ironwood Builders The double mud pan is a better installation. Sloping the vinyl liner means no water can be trapped between the mortar and the vinyl. Years ago, when all our pans were galvanized sheet metal and tar, the flat bottom pan was the only option. Not as good as the soldered copper pan that preceded it, but... Go with the more modern...and higher quality installation. No regrets.
