To edit your own existing photos, select the photo you’d like to edit. Click on the “edit” button. Here you are able to edit the name, category, style and project that your photo is associated with. In addition, you can provide a description and photo credit. The more information you provide, the more easily users will be able to find your photos on the site.

If you need to add or replace images simply select browse and find the updated image from a file on your computer.

Remember to click Submit when you are finished editing a photo so that your changes are effective immediately.

We can merge those for you. The upload tool will not select one photo over the other when you mass upload — it really grabs everything. In the future, if you would like to replace your smaller photos with larger ones you can click on the "edit" button beneath the photo, and next to the "add or replace images" you can select the file for the photo that is larger. This way, everyone who has already added the photos to ideabooks won't lose them.

Hi there, At this stage, you can only appear in one category. Your best bet is to choose the category that makes up the bulk of your business, then list any other categories in your business description, so you will appear in searches for those categories as well. Hope that helps!

How can I rearrange the photos on my profile? I uploaded 9 photos in a certain order, with a less important photo of bathroom detail as the last one I uploaded. Now that last photo is diplayed as the LARGEST on my profile with all the other photos I would rather feature now displayed just as little thumbnails next to it. Is there any way to rearrange or reprioritize the photos? Or do I just have to delete them all and reload in new order, knowing that the last one I upload will be featured. Thanks,

It looks like you have uploaded photos but have not yet created any projects.

The best way to arrange your photos the way you want them is to create a project for them. You can do that by going to one of the photos, clicking edit, then selecting (or creating) a project from that edit screen.

The photos will appear in the reverse order in which they are added to a project, so the photo you add last will appear first. With that in mind, you may want to add that detail photo you referred to first.

Hope that helps!

Sorry, this does not answer my last question of how or why pictures are being loaded sideways. As I tried to explain in my last comment, I remembered that all the photos that are loading sideways on the houzz site- when I took the pictures originally on my camera, I actually turned the camera sideways for a vertical shot. When I downloaded them to my computer, they showed up sideways. So I rotated them in my /computercamera program. Now when I load them to houzz, it is flipping them back to being sideways. any suggestions would help! I have since tried to copy the pictures, rename them.....to no avail! Thanks!

The pictures that I am having troubles with loading horizontally when they should be vertical.......what I noticed is, originally when I took those pictures, I had turned the camera sideways to get a vertical shot. When I downloaded them onto my computer from the camera, they showed up horizontally. So then I turned them back vertically, and saved them. Once I tried to put them on Houzz it flips them back to being horizontal again! What seemed to help was once I have downloaded them from my camera to the computer, I just made a copy of them right away-meaning I flipped them vertical, then saved, then made a copy. Then I use the copy to go onto Houzz, and it seems to have helped. Hope that helps someone!

Hi there, When you upload photos, part of the upload page requires you to specify whether the images are spaces or products. Products will not show in search results for photos. The best way to handle that generally is to upload your products and then also upload some spaces that feature your products as well, where you can then tag your products to help them be found in the photo search as well.

Houzz is cropping uploaded images for me to fit into a strange proportion/format. How do I prevent this unwanted cropping and allow the images to appear according to their actual proportions rather than the website's automated cropped proportions?

(Note: I have noticed that the cropped proportions seem to depend upon the computer that I use to view the images (possibly due to the screen display proportions?). Although, no computer seems to display my images according to their actual proportions.)

Thank you!

Hi Emily,

Thanks so much for responding. I truly appreciate it.

Yes, I am seeing the full size with no cropping occurring when I click on the images. That is great.

However, related to my initial question, I would like to know how to get my vertically-oriented images to fill out the entire image frame width with no image height constraint. In the XL view, my vertically-oriented images are not filling out the webpage's image frames "full-bleed" (so-to-speak), and the website is creating black strips to the left and right of my images to fill up the image frame. I would like the vertically-oriented images to fill the webpage's standard image frame width and allow unconstrained image heights (so that the image frame doesn't need to crop any images). Is there a way for me to control this?

Hopefully these images elucidate my question.

Image 1: Please see how my image gets cropped and receives black borders once uploaded to XL view?
Image 2: original image [EDIT: The image is getting cropped in the comment box. It is truly a vertically-oriented image, please click on image to view its actual proportions.]
Image 3: Please see how another professional's project image fills the image frame width and still reads as a vertically-oriented image because its height doesn't seem constratined.

Thanks Emily!

Hi Lucinda,

You can either upload as products or as spaces. For products, you are best off just trying to change the proportion to a square without a border then try to upload.

I've never been one to be a slave to the seasons as far as color goes. However, if you want to change things up a bit, try adding richer tones of the summer colors as accents. Yellow becomes gold, light blue becomes royal blue, lime green goes to a deeper green. Add a throw and change out your flower arrangements. It will be beautiful.

Hi Art,

We require that photos belong to one room category and one style.

I suggest your go with the best fitting category for your photos, so as to fit what people browsing the site are looking for. Chose the prominent part of the photo as a category. Alternatively, you can leave your photo uncategorized ("spaces") and provide more information about it in the description field.

The same applies to styles - chose what's the focus of your photos. If, for example, the room is modern but has Asian touches - you can chose eclectic. Our editorial team has written plenty of articles about different styles, which can be found here: http://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/Decorating-Styles#Decorating

Thanks Ofir. I did put most of our new art line under Eclectic but will put some under spaces. It is hard to have only 1 choice, a max of 3 would be nice but I understand that Houzz wants to avoid duplicates and is dealing with such a massive volume of photos as it is.

On another topic, have you ever considered adding "Shabby Chic" to style? This is still a very popular one. Lots of sparkle, soft velvet furniture, fringed & embroidered pillows, gold leaf art frames, soft wall colors. No other style choice really picks this feeling up in a comprehensive way.

One other thing... I think sub-choices under Artwork such as Wall Art, as framed, unframed and gallery wrap, would really help customers narrow down the search substantially. Just a thought. Thanks so much, Janet

@Joie de vivre You can add product tags to photos that you upload to your own profile. If you have your own shots of spaces incorporating your products, you can upload those to your profile and then tag your products in them there.
