Freestanding tub -- how much space around it?

jgelfandJanuary 27, 2013
we have a space of 107 inches x 41.5 inches. In that space we want to put a 60 inch freestanding tub and a 40x40 shower stall with glass sides. We are worried about the bathtub seeming too squished in to the space. It will fit with a few inches on either end. Is this enough space or will it look too squished in?

It's hard for me to say without seeing the space (do you have a pic?) but I think you could do it. I found this Ideabook that might inspire you - there are some great examples of freestanding tubs in smaller spaces at the end and great points to consider througout.

Any way you can place it on a diagonal? The Wow factor of a freestanding tub is to have the space around it. If you squash it, you detract from the investment (financial and aesthetic).
PS don't forget you need a table, tablet or some place to store your shampoos, soaps etc etc... the downside of these tubs!

Could be as few as 3 inches. Here is an ideabook for freestanding tubs.
