My husband and I just bought a house and I have attached photos from the trulia of the family room. The furniture etc. shown is not ours. We have bought the Lounge Sectional in a charcoal grey from Crate and Barrel and that is about as far as we've gotten in this space. We are also replacing the windows. We are hiring a painter and I am at a loss as to what color to paint the built ins, walls, and ceiling beams. Does anyone have suggestions for me? I'd greatly appreciate any other creative ideas you may have in helping spruce up this space! Thanks in advance!

try to move towards a mid-century look. Look-up on Google images "mid century modern ceilings" There are so many cool things you can do with those beams.

Yes, leaning towards painting the beams a dark brown (stripping/staining seems like a lot of work) but what color for everything else?

Pure white would provide a subtle change to the cream-ish beams and built-ins.

HI -- Wonderful room , lucky you ! Before you paint I think you should remodel that angled part of the built in . Straighten it out so that part of the built in will be a better fit for a flat screen TV . I think you should go all white for the room . A very modern thing to do now and it would look great !

All white for the room with your charcoal grey sectional will be stunning. Adding texture and pattern in occasional chairs, rug, lamp shades, pillows, ottoman, and a snuggly throw should do the trick. The window treatment should also be white on white texture or natural woven wood blinds. Very nice space!
