Floating shelves allow the shelf support to go inside of the shelf so that you don't see how the shelf is supported. There are a number of methods; the method you choose depends on how much weight you want the shelf to hold and your budget. We've even done them with custom steel on the inside. There are decorative floating shelves that are by far less involved, but they have weight restrictions.
