Need help with kitchen backsplash & paint color
We are remodeling our eat-in kitchen 12x12 (new sealing: white drywall, charcoal grey tiles on floor, natural maple cabinets slab front with stainless steel pull bars). We did not pick our granite yet. When we ordered it they added a 4 inch granite backsplash but I'm not sure anymore if I like it.

Do you have ideas for backsplash and wall paint color? House is from 1920 and walls and floors are uneven. We need to level the floor (wood subfloor) before installing the tiles. Then remove wood paneling and plaster walls. Any advice appreciated.

Thank you!

tartangirl Did something similar previously. Picked a countertop that complemented the floor (same colour saturation - charcoal, chocolate, caramel) and went a little lighter on the backsplash using tiles that were simple but had character and complemented the cabinets. The paint colour we used was very similar to the cabinets to make our kitchen appear a little larger. A Benjamin Moore Colour Tyler Taupe #HC 43 worked well with the light in our kitchen, possibly it might be a good starting point if you like similar colours. Good luck and have fun, there is no wrong choice if you love it. This site is amazing for pictures to view.

Regina Rogowskyj Thank you for your response! Do you have any pictures of the kitchen?

tartangirl No pictures, sorry, did that kitchen in my sister's old house. If you don't find pictures on this site that inspire, take a sample of your kitchen counter choice, cabinet and floor tile with you to a store ie Benjamin Moore, your cabinet maker or floor supplier for their decorator's input. In our area most have Interior Decorators on staff and the advice is complimentary. My sister liked the hardcopy visuals and picked up books from places like Home Depot and Cabinet Companies for examples. Their visuals helped her get the "feeling" of what she wanted in her kitchen. Good Luck.

Stoneshop Generally, most people opt to not install the 4" granite backsplash in their kitchens. It is still popular in bathrooms, but, in kitchens, most choose to carry the tile all the way to the countertop.

Without knowing your countertop color, I can not give accurate advice for your backsplash tile.

Regina Rogowskyj I found a picture of grey Chevron tile on here. Would that work in my kitchen? Or is it something that will be outdated very soon?

Stoneshop Every time that you install tile in a slightly more "trendy" pattern, such as herringbone or chevron, you always run the risk of it being outdated faster than some more classic patterns. However, it is YOUR home, so if you like it, then go for it! I think that it is a beautiful tile pattern that adds some interest to the space.
