Counters? Back splash? I have read good reports of vinyl "wood-tone" planks for flooring. Choose a tone that looks good with cabinets. Walls a light neutral that looks good with white appliances.

When it comes to apartments and vinyl flooring, make sure you understand the building's "sound rating" requirements. Vinyl often makes sounds LOUDER! This is not a happy thought to those living below or above this space.

Vinyl is an amazing, tough wearing product but it has sound limitations. Do yourself/tenant/building a favour and find the thickest cork or RUBBER underlay you can find/afford. A 6mm cork underlay is worth a 4mm solid rubber underlay. Solid rubber underlay is the only thing that beats cork for sound insulation. Sadly, solid rubber starts at $4/sf for flooring underlay. A 6mm (1/4inch) cork underlay can start at $0.67/sf.
