Building a Chalet in the French Alps
Morzine Retreats
February 1, 2013 in Before & After
Hi, we've been living in the French Alps for 11 years and operating ski chalets, we are now building our own chalet (a business for Winter Ski holidays and Summer activity holidays) with a separate apartment or us to live in, looking for ideas for interiors for both! The business Chalet will have 5 luxury ensuite bedrooms... have just joined 'Houzz' and started uploading photos... so what's your idea of a comfortable and welcoming ski lodge interior?

For a bedroom, wood elements. I don't like too much pattern or nature motifs. The bed HAS to be comfortable. The smell of a natural wood fireplace would be awesome. I think low ceilings would make it very cozy. I envision a wood floor, with wide planks. Sheep skin rugs beside the bed would be really nice on the feet, and looks good too. I hope that helps a little

It does thanks, the bedrooms are on the top floor so will have exposed beams, some walls wood, others either smooth white plaster or perhaps a feature stone finish on one wall, the fireplace we are not sure of as it is central to the living room so we need to see the space to decide wether we are going for a fireplace or a 'poele' - woodburner, I'd prefer a fireplace but as a business chalet a 'poele' might be safer.... we don't want a 'sauna' feel in the bedrooms so are unsure of wether to go for wood floors with lovely rugs or tiles (will be underfloor heating).. if we go for tiles we're looking for a dark slate effect throughout the chalet,
