Need advice forflooring

sallythatcherFebruary 2, 2013
Can I mix flooring? I have just had a new family room built which has been extended from the open plan kitchen and dining area. The existing floor is floorboards in a golden brown wood. Should I try and match the exsting floorboards as closely as possible or would it look better to go with something competely different. We have dark grey carpet in the bedrooms and dark grey tiles in the bathrooms and laundry. The laundry is off the kitchen and can be seen from the family room.

Try to match the floorboards as closely as possible, but 'frame' the new room by running a few boards in the opposite direction, as you walk into the room. This is Carolyn Albert Kincl's idea, I'm just stealing it! Thank you Carolyn!
