If you are lucky, the walls were sized prior to the paper being hung. Start with dampening the paper and pulling at a corner or seam. If not, a spray of diluted fabric softener after a LIGHT scoring with a tiger tool should work. The teeth of the tool allow for the solution to be absorbed and work to break down the paste. Never a fun job but rewarding in the end. Good luck!

Be careful with the tiger tool or you will be skimming your walls with joint compound.

Many wallpapers are “strippable,” which means they can be removed easily. Pry up a seam edge and tug gently, pulling down at an angle, keeping both hands close to the lifting edge. If it comes off easily, peels in a long sheet and leaves no adhesive residue, then your job will be simple. Basically a one-step operation.

Soak any paper that was applied with standard wallpaper paste, to soften the paste. It’ll make your job faster. Use warm water and liquid detergent Leave it on for at least 5 minutes, then use a scraper to lift off the paper. If the paper needs to be 'scored' use a wire brush or even a dinner fork to go over it lightly. Once you are finished scoring it wet down with a spray bottle. You can add a capful of fabric softner to the water. For some reason this helps. Let it soak 15-20 minutes before scraping it off.

You might have to use a steam wallpaper stripper to tackle materials that are difficult to remove or if the wall is covered with layers of old paper.

Hope it is faster to remove than writing this was! :-)
