Help with flooring
I have a kitchen, dining room and foyer area which requires new flooring. All areas connect and are fairly open. The foyer walks into the family room and I am torn with what to do:

1. Tile the kitchen, wood the dining and foyer, carpet the family
2. Wood the entire areas
3. Wood kitchen, dining and foyer carpet family

Potential reason for carpet is the vaulted ceilings.... Require deadening noise and not fond of large area rugs.

I know what I want to do, but someone else doesn't know if it is what they want. Professional help appreciated!

Deborah Butler, Brickwood Builders My vote would be for wood throughout, but we don't know anything about whether you have small children or indoor pets. Second choice would be wood throughout except the family room as carpet.

Cancork Floor Inc. Cork will do all of the above with the sound control of carpet. Cork floating flooring with 6mm cork underlay will give amazing results in a vaulted space. You can have a continuous floor without having to worry about one room's water issues and another rooms' echoing issues.

A cork floating floor, from www.icorkfloor.com, will cost the same as a medium end laminate or a low end engineered hardwood $2.28/sf - $4.09/sf). The 6mm cork underlay is second only to 4mm SOLID RUBBER for sound deadening qualities. And it is only $0.67/sf. With our most expensive cork+6mm underlay, you can have a beautiful floor for less than $5/sf. Installation is the same price as a click-together laminate.

You can choose any finish you like (stone, wood, tiled look, white, black, brown, red, blue) and can change colours from one room to another or go with same patter throughout.
