Horizontal stripes in office...need help with paint.

Looking to have horizontal stripes done in my office. I want to do a soft yellow with alternating metallic stripes. Does anyone have any recommendations on what products to use? Maybe a clear glaze on every other stripe? The painters all frowned when I mentioned metallic paint. Must not be an easy look to achieve? I want a very subtle stripe.

Why don't you just do the same color, but do one stripe in a satin or gloss and the next stripe in a flat of the same color. That would be subtle but very nice.

I did this on the common wall between my family room and dining room. I used Benjamin Moore eggshell and pearl finish in the same color and the strip is very subtle, but absolutely beautiful. The sun comes in and lights the wall up as does the evening lights from various lamps. Recommend this technique.

I agree with mpoulsom, I love the look of different varnished stripes

I think you can paint one color and the go over it with clear varnish for the stripes - a bit easier to do.

Your painters are right, sheen will create a subtle look. Metallics are not hard to work with in small projects but getting an even finish on long runs is definitely more of a challenge and it will be far more costly. Also metallics are hard to match to ordinary paint colours because lighting conditions in the room will dramatically change how the colour reads at different times of the day. Metallics will also magnify any imperfections in the wall far more so than a satin or gloss finish. Hope this helps!

Yes, have done horizontal stripes many times and either use flat and semi-gloss in same color or varnish. Good Luck!

Thanks for the advice! I realized some of the pictures I saw that I loved were actually wallpaper. I even went as far as to get a quote on the wallpaper but that wasn't very cost efficient either. I think I am going to do a flat base and then the alternating stripe in the same color but in satin.
Thank you!!!
