Switching from painted trim to stained

mekehlerFebruary 13, 2013
We currently live in a house that all of the doors and woodwork are painted. We would like to switch out everything to stained. While we would love to do it all at once, the budget doesn't allow for that. We are worried that the mismatch may look horrible until we finish. We are looking for on where to start.

I would recommend doing one room at a time.
If the trim is flat you could take it to a professional woodworker who could plane off 1/32"-1/16" and then run it through a drum sander and take off another 1/32"-1/16" so you would be starting with nearly fresh wood. It would speed things up tremendously.
