How often do you buy/change upholstered furniture?
I want to change the look of my furniture. It is 9 to 10 years old and good slipcovers cost about the same as a new piece. Am I being silly? indulgent? excessive? since there is truthfully nothing wrong with the existing pieces except I want something different?

eztia Slip covers are one way to change the look of the furniture without going to the expense of reupholstering.

Just to think about...
Is the room totally de-cluttered?
Are the windows washed?
Is the flooring as clean as you can get it?
Are the window coverings clean and in good repair?
Take down the artwork, and inspect the walls. Has the paint oxidized - can you see the outline of the art on the wall? Might it be time for a fresh coat of paint?
Is the artwork something that gives you joy when you see it, or is it also "tired" like the upholstery?
Some of these ideas do not cost as much as new slipcovers or new upholstery. Perhaps try one or more of these things and then decide if you continue to want to change the look do your furniture.
I have been where you are..."the ten year itch."
What are your thoughts?

olldbobbi We seem to replace our sofa and loveseat about every 5-6 years. It's due to be retired right now, and I'm ready for a new set!

starshine12650 Oh, Eztia, you are so right....along the 10years I have changed draperies, room color, and I just bought new dining chairs to renew the DR set. Three months ago, I completely changed the furniture arrangement - even moved the grand piano. I am a neat freak and not a clutter bug Loved all my changes along the way but now I feel stuck...truth is I know that each little change has impacted the whole and now the original furniture no longer seems right in the space. Maybe I'll just sit on the decision until spring to make sure I'm not suffering from cabin fever. Could be another paint color?
Thank you so much for your thoughts.

eztia If you are in a snowy part of the country, you might indeed have a bit of cabin fever by now! If you are good with techie stuff, you could put your room on photoshop and try out different colors for the furniture and/or walls.

Perhaps you could distract yourself from the furniture issue by planning your spring gardening...?
