Did you select a new dining room table and chairs? I'd love to know what you found if you did. If you're still in the process of deciding I thought this article would be of some assistance to you. Great suggestion on leaving 42"-48" between the table and the walls for clearance of chairs and guests.

A 48" round table will seat 4 and a 60" will seat 6. You need 24" to 30" of space to allow people to pass by someone seated at the table so add 30 + 30" for clearance, that's minimum. You will barely have room to go with a 5' diameter round table in a 10' room. Better do a layout on the dining room floor to make absolutely sure. I'd stay away from chairs with arms for space savings.
