I would like to purchase new bed side tables & lamps. I need help with mixing woods and styles. The mission bed stays and the broken target lamps and small round table goes. Thanks!

If you plan to stick with Mission as your bed, fan light and one table are, Start with a rug in the same style to pull half way under the bed. Let that dictate your color scheme, and finish off with more Mission pieces, but not any sets. Mix it up! Here are some typical rugs and you might also look into the recycled patchwork rugs made from old Kilims, bleached and pieced into a new one. They're nice!

I was thinking of mixing it up and not sticking to mission style. What sort of nightstands would look good with mission?

Not sure. You might search the box above for nightstands and bedside tables under products to get some idea. Post any you like and we can help you decide what works.

Hi dmkrenik -- I've just invited Mr. William Morris to a party in the new millenium. His designs were so fabulous, that I decided to take my personal favorite, the rabbits, in an overscale of today's proportions, and put them over your headboard. It doesn't have to be rabbits, and it doesn't have to be blue, but I'd search his designs for some small element that you love and blow it up over the bed.

You'll see I've painted the trim on one of your headboard "windows." I'd then add glass like you have in your fan light, and backlight the headboard. (At this point, Mr. Morris begins an awkward attempt at the Harlem Shuffle.)

I think the rest mixes it up without straying too far from mission form.

I took a break from playing on the site and fixing up my house. Here are some ideas that I like. Still not sure if they would work with our mission style bed. Suggestions welcome!

Try a small dresser as a nightstand. I like the painted idea because Mission style has a distinct wood tone and unless you mix it up thoroughly it won't work....but one painted piece would eclecticize the look.

That is a great idea. The space next to the bed is big. I guess since the bedding is white I could use just about any color!

Don't choose night stands with the same wood tone as your bed. Your painting inspired me to choose this green and your ceiling fixture inspired me to choose this darker antiqued colour. I suggest choosing two different night stands to make the design more interesting. I find these clear lamps go well with the style of your ceiling fixture.

Replacing the bedding would change the whole look of your bedroom.

I went shopping in my own home and found this print that has been moved around on many walls in our house. We love the colors in it. I placed it above the bed. I think building on the blues in the print would give me some color.

So I hung the print from above, found some old pillows around the house and purchased these new lamps. I still don't think I like the red. Probably prefer blue for a relaxing calming feel to the room.

So a little update. I added new pillows and the lamps. I am still looking for a chest of drawers/nightstands. Sorry for the grainy photos. I have an older iPad.

I found this table on sale at Stickely today. @Lydia is this what you had in mind? I'm not sure the scale works.

I like the table but agree with dmkrenik about the lamp. The height is good but it needs more presence. This one picks up on the colour in the painting and the throw pillows.

You can but in this case I suggest having the same lamps because the night stands are different. This would keep in line with the simple lines (style) of your furniture.

I think Pottery Barn has nice options with lamps & bedding.

Well I didn't really like the pillows. So I have new fabric and bigger pillows to decide on. The lamps are still a work in progress. I like the Pottery Barn lamps but I don't like the price tag that comes with them. Here's a picture of the new "pillows"

I like the new pillows but what about with the new(old) pic. I liked the brighter colors in it. Can we see pillows with that pic?

I think I like that better, especially if you turn the two stripey pillows the other way. Will mimic pattern on print.

It would be nice to have a brighter color coverlet or quilt folded at bottom of bed (with matching shams) to tie all together.

How about pulling out that blue in the pic or pillows for your accent as your room is very neutral. Will look great!

Try Home Goods or Marshall's for lamps or even tables. They often have reasonably priced good items that might not be decorator quality, but are certainly great options. I loved Barnhart's post using aqua, even with the table. (Sorry if got name wrong. On iPad you can't look back at posts once you start typing).

I haven't found anything tall enough at Home Goods. I need the lamps to be ~33" high. The headboard is very tall. Here are some lamps I found on Lamps Plus.

You're right about the taller lamps. I just bought 2 there to match new LR and took my taller, more$$$ ones to my bedroom where it gave a whole new look and made reading a more pleasant experience!

I kept the Stickley table (I love it) and on my husbands side I have a crate & barrel desk ( from my office). It's the right height and dimensions. Maybe one day a better nightstand but these seem to look good. Just need that punch of color and lamps!
