Find the best quality lamp store and take one in. Good stores have people with lamp/lampshade expertise. I would think tall, slim. Depends on what you're doing with them. I'd keep the shade simple, the lamp is the star.

It depends on the look you are going for.

I love an old lamp with a great new shade.

If you are wanting to stay true to the lamp, get a shade with a great shape. http://www.leonceantiques.com/images/lamp19.jpg
