Looking at adding a spa / hot tub to our backyard when we remodel.

Our home is in the country and on the California Coast. We are on well water and septic. We are looking for a greener alternative with our home remodel, including solar water heaters and reclaimed products. I hate chlorine and am looking into salt based water softeners but just came across a UV cleaners for the outdoor spa. Question is regarding a spa: Is it lower maintenance, cost, and green to use the UV system vs Salt water or Chlorine? Anyone use solar to heat their spas?

How's your research coming along? I'd love to know what you've discovered so far. Hopefully a spa expert will pop in and share their advice!
