stove top is located in island - can you put a recessed stovetop in it with marble

Not sure what you mean about a 'recessed stovetop"....But marble may not be a good choice for the cooking zone in a kitchen. It is soft and porous,stains easily and scratches. Pots and pans will scrap off the surface and grease will discolor it. I have read here that some of the man made materials will hold up better and give you "look" of marble. I can't speak to that as my clients opt for natural stone.

By a piece of marble tile and abuse it for awhile, maybe a little lemon juice, spaghetti sauce, and some stoneware coffee cups with a rough bottom.
