Will sand damage wood floors?
I need to install flooring in the main level of a beach house, which includes the living room, dining room and kitchen. Maple wood is my first choice but I am concerned that the floors will be damaged by the sand that inevitably will be tracked into the house. Is this a valid concern? If so, what flooring options are recommended? I want the house to have a warm, earthy feel. We visit it as often in the winter as we do in the summer so I'd like to avoid tile as a solution. Thanks!

JWinteriors There is tile that looks like wood and will withstand the sand. Very beautiful designs and colors to choose from. Even travertine tile with white woodwork and soft neutral wall color will give it the beachy feel. Keep the wood floors for your bedrooms and non high traffic areas.

minemine 'Sandpaper' is abrasive, so it only stands to reason that sand would be also. I like the suggestion by JWinteriors. Tile will be an easy clean, which is what you want at a beach house. Just sweep away the sand and damp mop when needed.
