Need advice about hiding wires in the street view of my beach house
This is the street view of my beach cottage in Rhode Island. I can't do anything about the location of these wires, but am hoping I might be able to hide them in some way so that the view of the house from the street looks nicer. Suggestions welcome!

decoenthusiaste Tricky. I hid a utility box with a lattice. Is this a Smart Box read from elsewhere or does someone have to approach the house to get a reading? In the summer you could set a huge planter with a big ficus on the landing and it might cover the boxes. Don't know how you'd cover the lines. You could plant faxt growing trees at street side and they would hide the wires running to the house. A row of tall skinny poplars wouldn't get cut down by the utility company, but they might not do well in your area.

Barbara Griffith Designs I would check with the utility company and see if these could be relocated to the side of the house..of course there would be a fee. The only other idea would be to paint your house a darker version of your color to minimize the contrast of the wires & house. Or can you paint the wires the house color, actually I think I have done that in one of my previous lives. Then to hide the boxes, add a pergola type piece all the way across this side wall that extends out, and angles down. It would add interest and solve the problem..PS paint your garage door the color of the siding, it will also minimize the wire/boxes because your eye will not be poised to look at it if the wall was all one color.

The Color People A darker color for the body would hide the stuff on the siding. I'm sure this is much more of a problem in the winter when the foliage is gone. I would suggest painting the garage door. It will give your eye something to look at besides the wires. Use a gloss finish. A lot of making a house look better is simply taking the eye away from what is not its best feature.

Norm Walters Construction Inc. Normally the riser (pipe for the electrical feed) goes through the roof with a flashing. Was it done this way to other houses in your neighborhood? If that were changed, a chase (three sided box) could be attached to the house to cover the wires, and painted the same color as the house.

The Color People On a plain house like this a chase would be the first thing that you see even if it was painted the same color. Maybe moving it all and building a chase for it on the side of the house would be good.

Ironwood Builders For a fee, the utility company will move wires underground. You provide a trench, the new pole and a new meter box to their specifications. You electrician hooks up the house and the utility company re supplies the service. Cost difference on moving the riser and meter socket over an underground system is the cost of trenching and conduit.
