New house... new living room...

So I just moved into a new house, and need to fill it up with furniture, as well as add some character. Right now, my living room/dining area is pretty bare. I have nice light blue couch, with a red rug (which is more red-orange in person). I really like the red/orange/light blue, with navy color scheme.. I want things to be pretty and bright.

I sure could use some help with a lot of things.. but from this picture (as you can see, walls are beige.. floors are a light wood laminate..).. if anyone could suggest paint colors for the room, as well as some other color ideas, that'd be great. I want to keep what I have so far, but not over-do the whole red and blue thing.

I already plan to re-place the light fixtures and ceiling fan, as well as scrape the ceiling at some point! Ew. Popcorn ceilings...

Any ideas or pictures would be wonderful.. thanks so much!

Hi Eryn, Love the space, love the sofa pillows and rug you have. From what I can tell the wall color is nice and keep things "warm". If you want to change the wall color "Dusty Miller" by Glidden is a wonderful blue/grey and I have found it works well in almost any space! You can have it reduced down to make it lighter as well.

I would add some simple white curtains to the windows. Hang the curtain rod as high as possible to make the windows seem as large and grand as possible.

It looks like you have a fireplace that could use a mantle :) This will add character and give you a space to accessorize.

Some nice wingback chairs maybe in navy? would compliment the sofa style and of course add some more seating. Some reclaimed wood, glass and/ or metallic side tables and coffee table would look great.

Keep with your red/light orang/ blue theme but throw in some white and other textures like woods and metals.

There's a lot to do but I would go with your colour scheme on one wall this would require some research but make the pattern bold and visible as you walk in the room. As you have said don't go overboard with the colours. But the wall will make the furniture and colours make sense and creates a space that is clear on your intentions. This is a good choice of colours and have fun with some unusual fixtures etc. My only thing I would try to do would be to introduce a lot of white... This will compliment the colours

For the living room I might suggest a couple of other pieces to help round the room out a bit including: a coffee table (maybe in a dark wood), a tropical plant centerpiece for color (bird of paradise, bromeliad, or orchid- you could get faux or real), a taller very green houseplant (palm, fig, ficus, or even a peace lily) in a large pot of your favorite color, and you could even throw a white or light colored slipcover over the couch if you don't want too much blue in the picture. A couple of uniquely designed chairs (love the previous idea of doing them in navy) and some fun pillows will really add some pop. Hope this helps!

Hi Eryn! I think you lucked out and have gotten alot of great feedback and ideas. I agree with most of prior comments. My different suggestion would be to fall in love with some inspiration pieces or photos of things you just love. Then you can tie them all together with use of color and/or theme. You have a strong sense of style judging from your photo and you know what you like. Stick with your instincts but perhaps ask for feedback from Houzzers along the way? My only other comment is that I'm not crazy about the pillows - I'm not feeling the connection between the 3 - I think different pillows would pull the trio together more effectively: pillows of white with accents of orange and light blue? Enjoy the ride!

The color is the key, so if you want to have bright colors, I will suggest a faux finish with a luster finish, where your beige color on your existing wall will be your based color, than you can add the pearl luster faux finish with very light blue. Finally, adding touch of a glaze gold color. If you want to introducing touch of a red color by complementing your existing area rug. So, my recommendation will be: a great flower arrangement with a red, white, and orange colors then , a ceiling medallion for your fun with touch of the red color. If you are planning to have a window treatment? My suggestion is, the silk fabric with a great sheen of the oyster color and touch of the blue contrasting fabric.
