Light over 10'L x 40"W table with 30' ceiling
Liz BFebruary 24, 2013
Hello, I need some help figuring out how large and how high I should hand one or two light fixtures over my dining table. Our ceilings are 30' high (we live in a barn). The table is 10' long and 40"W. I really like the Camino Lighting from Restoration Hardware. Do I get the 62.5" diameter single round or the 50.24" two-tier round? Or something else. And since our ceiling is so high, how high should I hang the fixture? Or should I just treat that space as a typical space and hang the fixture the recommended height? Please help! Thank you.

With the Camino Lighting, I would personally do just the two tiered one in the middle. Hang it about 30-36 inches about your table top. This is going to help bring the space down and feel more intimate around the dining table.

Another option is to hang sister lighting. However, you would have to use a different type of light:

A chandelier wider than your table is going to look oddly proportioned. The smaller model may suit your space and table better: http://www.restorationhardware.com/catalog/product/product.jsp?productId=prod2111632

Hang it at the normal distance from the table top.

Very few people can do the sister lights due to size constraints. You have the perfect opportunity to make a statement. The houzz options posted above would look so beautiful and unique in your space!

If you really like that Camino style, go for the large rectangle!!!

Thanks for the comments. I like the sister light idea. Although now I wonder how large should each fixture be? With a long table I'm wondering if the lights should be only 24-30" wide?
