i am installing a wrought iron SC, with maple treads and railings with closed stringers . should the risers and stringers be painted white or stained to match treads and railings

I've seen them do both ways it really is a personal preference.

Painted risers with stained treads look stunning. They can get scuffed up if you don't have a carpet runner, however.

Personally I prefer a completely solidly stained staircase over painted risers.
