We are looking into starting a bathroom remodel and we dont know how much we should be spending and whats the average price these days. Anyone that can give me a rough estimate of what a bathroom remodel these days cost it would be appreciated. Its the master bathroom and it;s pretty large
Ironwood Builders Mia...That is a huge question! First, the bathroom and kitchen are the most expensive rooms in the house. There is no typical cost. If you are just going cosmetic...tearing out all the fixtures and tile and redoing things in the same place, no plumbing, electrical or ventilation, no wall moves or doors added or windows changed...Stat by selecting the fixtures you want. Tub, shower, lavatory(s), commode. Then look for valves. Roman tub, shower (with handheld and/or body sprays) Shower head, lavatory faucet(s). No do accessories...Towel bars, toilet roller, robe hooks, medicine cabinets or mirrors, shelving and the seat in the shower (teak fold up or built in bench). Now lighting...how will you light the vanity, sconces (best for makeup and shaving) Bar fixture, overhead, recessed fixtures, bath fan. And vanity, plus the counter top! Tile? How much shower, how much tub surround, how much backsplash. Wainscot? Get the square footage of the amount of tile you want. Multiply by $20 (the only labor cost included item). it's a good ballpark..unless you go with something special. Didi I miss something...probably, it's late, but then I always do estimates in the middle of the night. So you have a basic set of materials for finishing with this list. I'm not including wallboard or paint....or demolition. You'll still need an electrician for installs, especially if you are using a jetted tub. Price out this list. Multiply by three...you'll be close. I started out to say it is impossible to estimate from where I sit..but not from where you are. If you are under $15K...I'll be shocked. Stay in touch..I'll be here on Houzz. let me know how it goes! Best of luck!
Dytecture Great explanation by Ironwood Builders. If you could provide some photos of what your current bathroom is like, there might be some builders in your area that could help give you a rough estimate.
Great answers above. Your question is very common but unfortunately so completely subjective that its about as easy to answer as "how much does a car cost?" - impossible to answer without getting into specifics. *Everything* in the room can sway a project's budget drastically one way or another, and not just the obvious finish and fixture selection. I've seen large master bathrooms having a smaller price tag than a tiny one, all because of the specifics.
When I'm discussing this topic with my clients I find it best to begin with this - what is a sensible budget commensurate with the homes value and location etc., coupled with their needs, expectations and how long they plan to stay in the home, etc. Once we've outlined a realistic budget that they are comfortable with, I design to that. If you can find a great designer, architect or designer/builder in your area, this would be a good place to start, imo.
