Landscaping Ideas please

We moved into this house a little while ago, and haven't done any landscaping to the front of the house. It already has a few bushes, but I wanted to add flowers and some sort of edging around it. Any suggestions/ideas for specific plants/flowers since I have no clue where to start? I live in Zone 8 in Texas.

Nice tree and steps, but remove all the clumpy hedges on the left and flanking the walk. Try something more like these. Be sure to frame the curving stairs with color. Peter Wodarz, Milileu Design My Craftsman Home exterior Mediterranean Exterior PJ Landscape

Thanks! I hired someone to come and remove all the overgrown shrubs/bushes on the left side. He's going to replace it with some boxwoods to cover the foundation. He's going to put in a metal edging around the flower beds. And , he asked me to decide on what specific flowers I would like to have planted on both sides..so I'm on the search. Any ideas will be appreciated! :)

I agree with above comment. Also, bring out the landscaping from the house down to perhaps the 3rd or 4th step from the top. This way, the last few steps will be like walking in a garden. Nice home.
