Yes. The manufacturer of the hood generally offers specifics for the fan motor/hood choices they offer. As a general rule, for the exhaust to function properly, the length and number of bends in exhaust piping must be kept to a minimum and as the number of bends and length of run increase, so should the horsepower or CFM (cubic feet of air moved per minute) capability of the motor in combination often with an increase in the diameter of the exhaust pipe. Also, in our experience, it is best NOT to skimp on quality with an exhaust hood. Purchase the very best you can afford and precisely follow the manufacturers recommendations.

First off, lovely project @Spivey Architects.

Everything previously said is correct, and I'll add a couple of things to remember. Hoods over grills need to extend farther into the room, typically about 30" - 36" deep, to catch smoke rising at the front edge of the grill lid when it is opened. Plus, we recommend a capture area (hood) at least 12" wider than the grill to help catch rising smoke.

I like to see at least a 1000cfm blower and 10" round rigid duct for minimum friction.

An external blower is preferable, if possible, to reduce the amount of noise right there at the grill.

There are a number of hood specialists you can consult with your particular application. Try not to looked shocked when you find out how much an appropriately sized hood is. :-)
