Choosing bathroom countertop, need advice.
March 5, 2013 in Design Dilemma
Choosing countertop for our bathroom (a new addition to our craftsman style MT home). Hard to find granite or limestone remnant long enough (7ft). What is a good choice? Quartz? Quartzite? Corian? (P. S. I hate grout lines!)

Some fabricators will cut a full slab for you if it is a popular color as they will be able to sell the remaining remnants easily, at least mine will.

I like what Norm said. Also, Popular colors shouldn't cost as much. However if this is a bathroom that will be used a lot, I would put Quartz in it. It is Non Porous so you don't have to worry about make up or hair products damaging the material and you wont have to keep sealing it.

Even a Corian type product is good for a bathroom, it's non porous and you most likely won't scratch it with a hairbrush 8-)

Quartz slabs are a bit smaller on average than granite, but my guess would be that you would have an easier time finding a granite, marble or limestone remnant than a quartz. I'm sure it depends on your fabricator and how they operate their bone yard.

If you cannot find a remant piece long enough, one option may be to seam it in the middle or in a sink cut out.

Thank you for the input! I was able to find a local shop that will sell me a gorgeous piece of Uba Tuba brushed finish in my budget!
