Where is it currently sitting? Is it wall mounted?

Do a "California closet" type design in your closet that includes a shelf for TV. Hiding it doesn't make sense if you watch it every night before bed. So, set it where you want to view it and keep other accessories to a minimum.

It is not watched very often...........is presently on a dresser. This is the problem. I want to get rid of the dresser as i have enough closet space for my 'stuff'

Do the home safe idea. Create a false wall in front of the existing wall with a niche for the TV. TV is set inside and large art canvas hinges over the opening.

This goes against your minimalistic goal. However, if done well, would look really cool.
