Can stacked stone, such as the Golden Gate Split Stone, be used in a shower?

Stacked stone is not recommended in the shower because the water and dirt can accumulate between the individual stones and it is very hard to clean between them. The potential for mold and other unwanted problems is much higher than if you use a material with less relief and a smoother surface. There are other tiles that have come a long way and you can find various colors to somewhat mimic the look of the stacked stone. Glass mosaic can also be used in a shower as an accent to add some interest to a more neutral field tile.
