Baseboard and door frame size.
I was wondering if you have 5" baseboards what size door casing/trim would you use? Do you use the same size or go a bit smaller around the doors and windows?

Norm Walters Construction Inc. The same size or larger for the casings, Howe casing looks really nice.

Yarbro Home Improvement LLC Assess the situation first. Regarding the door casing. There are many situations where there is a door in close proximity to a adjoining wall. Many doors swing against a wall. In this case, it looks horrible, in my opinion, if you have to rip down a piece of 5" door casing to make it work in the corner. One 5" wide leg, one 5" wide head and a 2" wide leg. Count and see how many of these situations you have throughout the house before you make a decision.

Ironwood Builders Jumpin' in! Casings are narrower than base typically...and doors that hit a corner will happen with any size casing! It is the journeyman's job to figure out and install a trim package to look good in all situations. Sampling out the trim package....building a typical window detail and door casing/baseboard junction is a really easy way to figure out proportion and style.

kitasei If you have floor to ceiling doors abutting walls, is it best to go with NO casements, even if you have base molding? Or should there be casements on just one side of the door? Very hard when you're adding trim to a modern interior! No intention of hijacking the thread, but I see a lot of us are stumped by the trim dilemma.
