Husband likes to help decorate!!
My husband decorated this wall for me. The grizzly bear artwork was done by him and is an original. He added the vintage snowshoes and hunting magazines, I love this look. Not too masculine or feminine, just right!

decoenthusiaste Great to have an artist in residence. I would lower the picture to the same level as the hunting magazine frames and move those on that piece of side wall, stacked vertically (just leave the width of their two frames between them. There is a little too much going on in one spot, but taking those to the side will bring the main focus to your husband's art. Nice look for your western style sofa.

Whitetail Ridge Art/Wildlife Photography That is a great idea, can't move artwork fastened to wall as it is on birch wood but die move magazines. Will post another pic thanks for the idea!

Whitetail Ridge Art/Wildlife Photography Moved the magazines, does look better, thanks!

Marie Hebson's interiorsBYDESIGN Inc. Sigh - it is nice to have an artist in the family - but artists don't always make good designers/decorators. This art would feel more at home in a lake cabin or mountain retreat, but just doesn't feel right in an urban home...
Whitetail Ridge Art/Wildlife Photography Actually we did move recently from Colorado, so this is our style and we love it! Thanks for your opinion!
oakleyspanky I'm confused then, if you love this look and are not looking for solutions to your decorating problem, why did you post for help in a design dilemma forum? I agree for a rustic cabin look this may be ok, but would not feel it suitable in a modern urban home....It would be hard to hurt your husband's feelings, or is in this in a 'man cave' part of the house.....

It takes a lot of love to make a house a home!

bevballew Cool stuff but just needs a bit rearranging, i think. Is that why you posted? Would not the two skiis look better together. The pictures moved over look good. Otherwise, what a cute guy making such a darling wall collection. Love, the skiis!

Whitetail Ridge Art/Wildlife Photography @Aja. Thanks I would say so since we are married 38 years and know what makes our house feel like our home!

Whitetail Ridge Art/Wildlife Photography Just posted in the wrong section I will definitely be more careful next time!
Aja Mazin memaroxy,

Congratulations!

May you enjoy many more years together!

My mother taught me with her actions that a marriage is not a 50-50 affair, but rather a 100 percent affair.

My mom always says that the only way I can make marriage work is to give a hundred percent every time.

The older I get, the more my mother seems to know.

oakleyspanky I've been married 34 years myself, and I do agree what makes you happy and lifts your spirits is what makes a home. I certainly didn't mean to insult you. We post on these forums because we want other's honest opinions (I think). The art work and the decorating style is not to my taste but I don't have to like it...you do!

Susanna I would be crushed if my husband did not like my artwork. Truthfully, I think it would be difficult to marry, or stay married, to someone who didn't. I'm sure it is a boost to his creativity that he has his own cheerleader !

Kevin Retired Decorator I think now that you moved the small pictures to the left wall it looks nice. As far as the style there are no rules about your personal likes. Especially where a home is located. I find it's refreshing you have a interesting look that doesn't look like everyone else s home. Keep it going !!!

handymam I think your husband is very talented! I love that he is involved in decorating his home as well. Lots of husband leave it all to their wives, and then complain about what they choose, lol. He did a great job!

Hey Marie Hebson, handymam here. memaroxy said nothing about her home being an urban home, so I am not sure where that came from. I do believe that memaroxy is proud and supportive of her husband's work and efforts, so why the need to give an opinion so negative? Obviously your taste is so much different than most people here that actually like what she posted, but just because we don't like something for ourselves is no reason to act like what they have chosen should be somewhere else. So don't hang it in Marie Hebson's home, but can't you appreciate anything that isn't your style?

Aja Mazin handymam,

!!!!!!!Standing Ovation!!!!!!!

curacaoblue It's great that your husband is Interested in decorating. I think a lot of women wish their spouse shared their interest as it *tends* to be a female dominated hobby. I think it looks a lot better with the 2 frames on the opposite wall.
Marie Anne I salute your husband's talent, very impressive artwork tastefully highlited with well-coordinated details. I would like to suggest a little something, if I may, even though you are not having a design dilemma... The couch is massive and gorgeous, but the flowered pillows do not flatter the style achieved. I would go with felt or wool pillows with more masculine, rustic graphics. Why not try red and highlight the "Winchester" writings on the painting ? I bet the effect would be spectacular. And would probably showcase your husband's work as well as your lovel of the masterpiece to him !

delqe I absolutely love your decor. I live in a 40 year old condo due to the fact this is all I can afford. I am just in the process of decorating my living room in Adirondack or "cabin" decor. I love the warm homey feeling it gives me. I know this style is not for everyone but neither is the colder sterile look of modern. I love the outdoors, especially our Canadian wilderness and I decided that I want to have that wonderful feeling around me all the time. Some of us aren't lucky enough to have cabins on the lake. Oh I should add that I am 70 years old and I wish to live my life as comfortable as is possible. I won't decorate my own space in a style that is "not me" just because it's the "flavour of the day". I also applaud every homeowner that is not afraid to express their own individuality. This sometimes takes guts.

Thank you so much for your comment, you are right, your home should be your "haven" and should make you feel comfortable & safe. I am so glad that you understand what I mean. We lived in Colorado for a few years in the Rockie Mountains and loved it. Due to family issues we moved back to Pennsylvania but the mountains are in my soul! I pray your home turns out exactly as you want it to!!!

bubblyjock I'm no expert, but if your husband plans to post images of his (lovely!) work online, apparently there's simple software out there that you can use to "watermark" his images, so anyone poaching them will stick out like a sore thumb.

Otherwise, nowadays, post them, and they're out of your hands forever. ;)

My husband has a strange habit of always including his fingerprint on his artwork. We did have an episode on eBay where a person made copies of his sketches sold them as "originals" and had his share of grief because of it!
Whitetail Ridge Art/Wildlife Photography @Jayme. Thanks so much, will put some more sketches that he has finished and a sketch of an oil on canvas he is working on.
Marie Anne Good job memaroxy ! You made some truly beautiful choices. Hope your husband agrees !!
Speaking of him, why don't you advertise a little and tell us where we can purchase his work ? You have stirred quite a lot of attention and compliments !
Whitetail Ridge Art/Wildlife Photography My husbands does all his artwork from our home. He uses a photo provided by the client and does the sketch. Each sketch is priced according to the amount of detail in the photo. He has done portraits, homes, wedding photos. He can also take several different photos and make a single sketch from them. He made a sketch for a lady whose husband never caught that "big" one and had her husband in the sketch with a 12 point buck! The time needed for a sketch varies from 1-7 days and oil paintings from 1-3 months as time for oil to dry etc. Our email is coloradomema@ gmail.com. If anyone is interested email him a pic, actual photo should be at least 5x7 and he will give price. He also does Civil War, Native American anything you want! They are all originals no prints!
Thanks for your interest!

hercules63 I think your house is charming and perfectly reflects your interests. Moving the two pics really focused the attention on the art. Though the snowshoe is great and appropriate for the room. Acshew near the painting looks a bit staged. Possibly somewhere else in the room. But if not still looks great.

Keitha Those charcoal sketches of older areas of your town would be fantastic framed simply in a more transitional or contemporary frame to go with many decor styles making it marketable to many..... Great talent!

He sells them unframed for just that reason & you are correct they do fit in many decors. His Civil War sketches are usually in the most elaborate frames. Thanks!

Andrea Prasch I'm in school for interior design. Everyone has different tastes and it's all about making the client happy and their tastes. rochellelavon Whitetail...Your mother was right on. I have been married for 53 years this past Feb. My husband is 73 and I am 72 years young. Still do most of what we always have done, fishing, hunting, traveling by van all over the country and Canada, raised children and have our grandchildren with us as much as we can get them (school gets in the way). To do all this, we give 100% to each other. Sometimes we fail but that is not very often. Love and Respect does wonders to your marriage. Try it - you'll like it. :)

Laura Lind My husband came into our marriage with several thousand CDs, many many many rows of LPs, and he convinced six of his best friends to pitch in cash and buy us a 3 x 7 foot art collage that consists of guitar fronts, leather, fun fur, bottle caps and metal studs - as a wedding present! I love the guy but man oh man! My mother always tells me that since I spend more time at home I should make 90 percent of the decor decisions. She won that argument years ago - her house is almost entirely pink. Not really fair either.
It would be nice to be in decor synch with your spouse. I envy you that, Wildlife Lady.

judyg As I said before, you are a loving wife. My husband's den decor may not be everyone's choice, but it is a reflection of him and his accomplishments. He was/is a very gifted man. I make it work with a good leather sofa, sisal wall to wall, a menswear glen plaid on the windows, hanging on bamboo rods and a big red Asian cabinet. He loves HIS room and, I think was a little surprised that I got so into decorating around his memorabilia. Makes a house a home. :>) Best part? We had fun doing it together.
judyg from Nate Berkus: Good design isn't just about mathematical proportions and eyeballing and space planning. Good design is about imagination, and it's about surrounding yourself with things that are genuinely nourishing.

People should be proud of the home they've created and the memories that have been made there. You have to ask yourself if the place really does represent who you are. When your eye travels around the room, does it say something about the people who live in that house? .........
Cindy Quinton It amazes me how many designers consider themselves "artists," yet totally negate the inherent independent individuality true art must embody....smh. To Whitetail, I love your husband's artwork, he is truly talented, especially for being so self taught. This is a style you might see about anywhere in the Greater Tulsa area except downtown....and even that wouldn't totally shock me. Art is generally a reflection of life, and around here even many people who live in planned suburban communities spend evenings, weekends, and holidays in the woods, often hunting. So of course the homes often lean toward woodsy themes.
