Chrome or Nickel, or something else?
March 20, 2013 in Design Dilemma
I am updating a 1980's house. It is very modern on the outside. My style is eclectic. I have all oak furniture which I really can't see replacing at this point of life. I've done a very bold, colorful, organic, mod fabric treatment in the kitchen, almost retro. However, I also lean towards natural items in accessories. That is, an organic look. Anyway, my question actually is, does this sound like a scheme that tends more towards nickel than chrome? Don't you think of nickel as a little more casual and earthy? Or, how would you classify the "looks" of nickel versus chrome in metal fixtures? Is one way more "in" than the other?
How do you see these two metals standing up to the test of time?
What do you think of "dark" metal? What have you gone with, and why?

Polish nickel looks "white-er" compared to polish chrome, also, the selection on nickel is more limited than chrome and usually cost more. Chrome is more common and easier to find other accessories to match.

They are both plated over steel, brass or copper and its lifetime depends on the maintenance.

If you like the idea of more of a unique look, go with nickel but expect to pay a little extra. If you want to easily find accessories to match go with chrome
