espresso or white kitchen cabinets

I have a very traditional kitchen in a very contemporary house. Cherry wood cabinets with tan granite and tan back splash. It's soooo boring and brown for me. I am going to do a remodel with new cabinets, new counters, and new back splash. I have red glass pendant lights which I love so i'd love to pick up that red for some great color.

Whats the trend now for kitchens...white cabinets with dark counters or dark cabinets and white counters. And, I would love to do a glass subway tile back splash in red.

With a red glass backsplash I would consider white cabinets with white counters. Or a lighter wood. If you search houzz for red backsplash you'll see some examples.
